- Job Seeking Assistance:
Coming from developing countries, most Latin American students in Brisbane choose Australia over other places as a study destination given the possibility of working part time while studying. This enables them to assist their living expenses while abroad. As such, they rely on finding casual or part time jobs to secure a smooth student experience.
It is not always easy to find a job for newcomers and migrants. Therefore, our Job Seeking Assistance project intends to prepare and support especially Latin American students to find job opportunities.
Thanks to Migrate’s industry contacts, we have been able to find some job vacancies for international students. We are continuously looking for fair employers in any industries who would like to give a chance to Latin American students to demonstrate their willingness, skills and experience in part time or casual positions. Latin Americans are well-known for being hard workers, thankful and friendly. As such, employers who have engaged Latin American students usually value their hard work and keep them as long as possible.
Please contact us if you are an international student looking for a part-time job, or if you are a business looking for labor.
- International students’ work rights advice:
Most international students do not know about their work rights in Australia. Even more, some are exploited and/or maltreated by unscrupulous employers who take advantage of their vulnerability and unawareness.
As such, our international students’ work rights advice project intends to inform international students about their work rights, as well as possible legal avenues to deal with exploitation issues among others.
Contact us, if you are an international student and would like to find out:
- What your work rights and obligations are as an international student in Australia
- What you could do if your employer does not pay you and you are working with a Tax File Number or ABN
- What you could do if your employer mistreats, harasses, intimidates or threatens you
- Which organizations look after labor rights including the ones of international students
This initiative has been kindly supported by Corney & Lind Lawyers. We welcome the assistance of any other organizations that would like to support this project in any shape or form. We are also eager to join any other organizations who fight for migrants’ work rights.
